Well, we are done. FM24 is over. We were anticipating this event for months, and now that it is over…well, I am a little depressed frankly! It was the most fun I have had on my bike in a long long time, and I am sad it is over.

Quick summary: Two 6 person teams, 24 hours of riding for each team, 0 sleep, 50 miles riding for each person minimum, malnutrition, beer, lycra, crazy traffic, getting lost (don’t take a right on MLK became our inside joke!) sunset…sunrise…more riding.

We got to the site at 8:30am to set up. From then we got amped and before we knew it, it was time to go! For the next 24 hours, we just rode and ate. Some slept, many tried to sleep. Shots were taken, points gathered. Dog poop was found and collected (yes, that was a challenge!) and there was laughing and crying. Anna was crazy fast, coming in as the 20th fastest woman in the entire race! Both of our teams did remarkably well. The standings for both teams are as follows (out of 90 teams and 350 racers!):

Bici Coop Sexy Fun

Laps-24 for 36th place

points- 183 for 21st place

Bici Coop Dapper Lads

Laps-27 for 28th place

Points-94 for 33rd place

Not too shabby, huh? We are all ridiculously proud. Many teams dropped out through the night, so it was us and the major competitors out there. We are each walking a bit taller this week.

Anna had someone snot all over her, I saw someone pull into the finish line buck naked with a $100 bill in his mouth and we all got a little lost in the streets at one point. Friends, there was bike porn everywhere! Some of the most beautiful bikes I have ever seen (and some of the cutest boys!). The race organizers were nice as pie and other than a Porta Potty incident (only 2 for the event and they overflowed by 4 am), had it all together. Each of the stops were easy to find and everyone was helpful. We got to see old friends and make new ones.

During my last lap at 6am, I couldn’t stop smiling. I started in the grey/blue of an early sunrise. The streets were empty and there was a slight breeze. I had ridden about 38 miles already and was delirious from no sleep, but was pumping my legs and riding just as hard as I did on the first lap. The city was just waking up and all was quiet and blue. The riders I came upon occasionally smiled and we all said “good morning” and “best lap of the day”, each smiling as though we had a great secret from the rest of the world. And we did. We had ridden the city and seen it at it’s best and worst. It was the best, most peaceful riding I have ever experienced.

By the time I got in, the sun was up and the Georgia Falcons tailgaters had set up in full force. We were kicked out of the parking lot at 6:30 and spend the next 5ish hours on the side of the road, all packed up. The music was pumping and it was literally madness. 1000′s of tailgaters (first home game and season opener) descended upon the 100′s of sleep deprived cyclists. The street that held the finish line was teeming with traffic and racers had to navigate people, cars and other cyclists.

We all slept Sunday and Monday and by the time we got to Bici last night, we were telling fantastic tales of cycling greatness! We may not have won, but we all grew to be better friends and had an epic time.

Thanks to everyone who supported us! It was fun knowing people were cheering us on from all over the country. See you next year!

Oh, and I rode the whole thing in a skirt! Gots to keep it real…

Well folks, in just a few hours we leave for Atlanta, where we will be competing in FM24, a 24 relay hour race put on by Faster Mustache! We are scared, excited, scared and stoked. Somehow we managed to have 2 teams representing the Magic City…The Bici Coop Dapper Lads (Alan, Jesse, Sam, Bob, Matthew) and the The Bici Coop SexyFun (Elisa, Anna, Kate, Brooke, Patrick, Tommy).

Food is packed, tents are rented and lycra is washed. We are ready to hang out, meet new people, ride our butts off and have a ton of fun. I had a tune up done on my bike yesterday (btw-Homewood Cycles‘ Tyree is awesome good people. Just sayin’) and it is ready to roll! We had someone drop out, so if you are in ATL and want to ride, holler at us via Twitter or email me at elisa@bikeskirt.com.

Want to see how we are doing? Check out the race tracker, where you can watch us in real time to see how we are stacking up. Considering there are Pro racers competing, we are not expecting to see any big wins…but you never know! I am super pumped to see our Atlanta friends and get to hang out with them again. They are good folks.

follow us on Twitter as well to see how we are doing! http://twitter.com/bicicoop or the link to the right for the Bike Skirt twitter feed.

We had an amazing amount of fun this weekend in Atlanta and Birmingham!

It started off with us leaving around 3:15 from Birmingham hoping that there wouldn’t be any traffic, because we had just enough time to get there and then race. Thankfully the roads were perfectly clear and we got there in record time (don’t tell the cops)! There was a pretty good crowd when we rode up, and a couple of guys were riding around doing tricks in the street. I started getting a little nervous.

We got ourselves registered and got a PBR Tallboy (they had 50 CASES!!) and stood around looking at the competition. Getting more nervous. Saw some friends. Telling them how nervous we are. Locking our bikes to the fence with about 70 others. Really really nervous. Listening to instructions. Totally freaking out. Then we go!

We followed the crowd to the first stop, chugged a pbr (and poured some out), got our next destination, and joined up with that kindest of boys in ATL, Bert! He rode with us to all seven stops so we didn’t get lost, such a gentleman! The next stop we went to required us to take a pic while having the facial expression of taking a shit. Lovely. I wonder where those pictures will end up? We rode some more, then next stop was the big one – TATTOO TIME! Elisa and Bert both got one, a little bike horn with the number 2 blasting out. Elisa’s hurt like a bitch, or so I heard.

As we were leaving from that, Rebecca’s chain got all sorts of twisted up so we had to get that all fixed, which took an amazingly long time and required the help of some guys from the bike shop. While we were working on that people were riding up saying that this was their second to last stop or their last stop and we quickly realized that we weren’t going to be getting first, but we left and rode to all the other stops anyway. There wasn’t anyone there, so thankfully we didn’t have to get our pubes shaved or anything else potentially awkward. But we had SO MUCH FUN and I think we rode through all of downtown Atlanta. We finally made it to then end and enjoyed even more PBR and some delicious burgers.

The next day Bert brewed us some fantastic coffee, took us to the best breakfast place ever (Ria’s Bluebird), guided a tour of Atlanta, and then told us how to get to the Dick Lane Velodrome for the race. I about peed myself when we got there, it was so extremely cool! I can’t do the rest justice in words, so I’ll leave you with some of the pictures I took. A great weekend!
