Garden District sights

By Elisa | 2 Comments »

********************************************************************************

On my way home from the Saturday market, I pass right through the Garden District, home of Commanders Palace, historic mansions and some movie star houses. If I don’t have my bag stuffed with market goodies like shrimp, yogurt and veggies, I try to take my time and meander a bit. Live Oaks hang over the road and the streets are relatively quiet (although full of potholes, per usual!), making it a great spot to ride on a hot Saturday.

My favorite things are the walking tours. Tourists walking around, taking photos and looking like they will DIE from the heat. Poor things; this heat is not for the faint of heart.

I am determined to see Sandra Bullock or Mos Def out here, since their homes are hidden away amongst the loveliness*!

Are there parts of your city/town that you explore when you get a chance?

*These are not their homes, just random homes I liked and could get a decent photo of while dodging tourists on my bike!

I think I would ride there every day! Amazing houses. But I know I would be the wimpy ones withering from the heat.

Those houses look amazing! I’ve always loved American style houses – we very very rarely have wooden houses here but the style is very quaint. I’m also a bit jealous of the fact it’s not raining – I think we need to declare a monsoon season in the UK between June and August. We have such beautiful sunshine in April and May though!
