Let’s be honest here…
I don’t like to “exercise”. I hate it, really. The reason I love biking so much is that I can get around to various destinations in a much more enjoyable, carefree way, and the fact that it’s good for me “exercise” is a huuuuge bonus. So, why would I ever want to go from this…
Skirted working girl riding her sweet bike around, ready to make salted caramel brownies, cuddle her cat Sylvia, and listen to old episodes of This American Life
To this…
Pissed off Cyclocross girl who doesn’t want to be practicing right after work
Well, I’ve got one word for you: KATE
Kate happens to be the new female rider on the Bici Cyclocross team this year, and she is kicking ass! While I was hanging out in Kentucky drinking too much beer and being a general slob this past weekend, she was winning the freaking Bamacross women’s 4. My belief is that she has accomplished this through a combination of running, spinning classes, general gym attendance, and practice. Ugh.
Last year I just hung out and rode around, barely getting on my cx bike when not racing and having a grande old time. I was nowhere near as fast or skilled as the top women in our class, and I was enough ahead of the others, so overall not too bothered. Now Kate’s come along and showing me that she is legitimately better than me because she actually works out and stuff. Why is she doing this to me?!
Thanks a lot, Kate. Thanks for setting the bar high. Yeah. This is the face of someone not amused. Whatever, Bici Coop team will dominate all fields at that next race. GRRRRR

P.S. Anna is the one racing Cyclocross, not Elisa. Elisa has a busted foot, Anna races Cyclocross.
P.P.S. I did make those brownies last week, and they were ungodly delicious.

yeah really KATE
anyone can be good if they @#$@#$ing PRACTICE
who needs that!
what about natural ability, huh?

I loved this post! You look great.
And thanks for clarifying…I have been getting emails asking how I am racing CX with a cast. DOH!
i rather enjoy my split personality.
I think there are a lot of us who share the same feelings for the gym. But right now I am so overwhelmed with jealousy at your general fitness and cuteness that I can’t speak.
I like the Bici kit. I might have to get one. I’ll wear it for Bump ‘n Grind next year.
Yeah, you look focused. Kate should be nervous.
I thought girls just want to have fun? Cyclecross sounds like too much work to me.
I’ve been told that wearing earphones, even draped around the neck, lead inevitably to a broken foot, which’d make the difference between Elisa and Anna more difficult for us loyal readers to discern without photos.
Anna, don’t be so hard on yourself, you are a trend setter for this city and women cyclist. Be proud girl, you do what you can, when you can!!!!!! It is all about the sport and just having fun!! I wish I could do half of what you girls do!!!
Where do they find all this time to workout, and have a life? It beats me, by the time my work’s done, commuted ( the most fantastic part of my day ) and done all my chores, it’s time for bed. I think you’re dealing with “Wonderwoman” there. By the way you look great in both outfits.
Sounds like you’ve got the mix just right.
Cycling, fun, salted caramel brownies…?, whatever goes on down in Kentucky, a touch of resentment and enough jealousy to send you onto the field with enough fire in your belly to compensate for any stupid training you may not have done…
LOL Go for it!
