Feeling Dutch(ish)
Sorry for the lag in posting. Life has kind of bitch slapped both Anna and I lately…we are hopeful that will be over soon. In the meantime, here is what has been going on bike-wise in my life!
In addition to life being heavy, so has my new(old) bike! I recently acquired an old GT Slipstream hybrid (Thanks Bike Guy!) for my grocery and carrying needs. This bike is quite different from Freddy, being much more lumbering and upright. It took some getting used to, but I have been riding it every day for over a week (to my new job!). My legs are showing the difference. Turns out an upright bike uses completely different muscles than my racing bike (post coming about the hazards of cycling legs and bums and now ill fitting jeans!). Plus the extra weight…I am kicking ass! I think that when I get back on Freddy, he will feel so nimble hauling me up the hills.
This bike has had a bit of work done in the past week…a rack, new cables, and the addition of 2 new Banjo Brothers panniers (one waterproof and one market bag). It feels like the dutch bikes I test rode in Chicago, only without the endless cool points. Ah well, it is doing the job! No more dropped eggs, books spilled in the street or wobbling all over the road on a hill with a loaded bike…smooth sailing and heavy hauling.

Love your new ride! Pretty silver color, and yes, it does use different muscles, doesn’t it? I can guarantee you’ll e flying on Freddy when you go back to him.
Hope you’re enjoying the new job!
Ooh, fun new bike! Very different from what you’re used to.
