Local Bike Shop wish list

By Elisa | 7 Comments »

I am going to finish posting about my trip (at least 5 more posts to cover it all!), but first this post.  I have been visiting bike shops in the midwest and seeing things that I would LOVE to see at my LBS. I hate having to order things off the internet, preferring supporting locally owned businesses. but that seems to be my only choice for many items.  Today I make my wish list.

Birmingham Bike Shops listen up; this is for you!

1. Chrome shoes.  These look good, are priced right and seem to be well made.  I have seen them all over the place, but none in Birmingham. Heck-anything by Chrome would be nice.

2.  Banjo Brothers bags and Panniers.  I have a backpack that is wonderful.  I had to order it from the company, which worked out well, but I would like to see them in the shops as an option for other commuters. Reliable, well priced and good looking.  My picks would be the Commuter backpack and Saddlebag Panniers.

3.  Bern helmets.  I want!  Especially for winter.

4. Brooks Saddles.  Maybe someone in town carries these?

5.  Pedal cages or toe straps.  Pick a brand, any brand.  (to be fair, Cahaba Cycles has ordered me 2 pairs of Power Grips)

6.  Swerve (or really, any good looking) womens cycling apparel.  Anything besides Lyrca, if you please.  Especially for urban riders.  This is an area that in general is lacking in cycling (hello, Rapha!), so it could be unfair to ask my LBS to carry the one pricey brand out there…but this is my wish list!

What do you wish was carried at your Local Bike shop?

Wow. Cool list. Must check out all the links. I don’t commute as much as I wish cause I have two small children who are a total of 100 pounds, but, we can go about a mile, LOL.
Anyway, as for urban cycling clothes for women, have you seen Sheila Moon or My-Alibi? Both design clothes specifically for that purpose. Pricey but nice.

Yup, Chrome is cool. Hard to get here in Europe though. Had to order my messenger bag.

I also wish that my local bike shops would sell some really cool old-style bikes, tuned up of course.
